Information and communications technology (ICT) is an integral part of the teaching and learning program at Gardeneres Road Public School. The school is well equipped with computers and interactive whiteboards in classrooms as well as a computer room where students are able to work one on one with computers.
As well as the intergration of ICT in classroom teaching, students also have the opportunity to visit the computer room once a week to develop ICT skills taught by a specialist ICT teacher. Skills taught are in line with the Australian curriculum and relate to classroom learning in consultation with class teachers.
In the Australian Curriculum students develop ICT capability as they learn to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in all learning areas at school and in their lives beyond school.
Code club
We have extra-curricular programming course called 'code club' offered to students in Years 3 to 6. The purpose of our ‘code club' is to build on the students' knowledge of coding and programming. Over the course of the year, students will be learning a number of programming languages, including scratch and python, and using them to design computer games, animations and websites. Students will also have the chance to build and program robotic systems. Our code club will be about fun, creativity and learning through exploring. ‘Code club' is currently at capacity although there will be opportunities for other students to join later in the year.
