Year 6 Fun Day
In Week 10 of Term 3, the Annual Year 6 Fun Day was once again a highlight of the GRPS calendar. It’s a day our students always look back on with fond memories of the fun and excitement. This year was no exception, with delicious treats, lively games, and plenty of joy and laughter.
The fete also provided a valuable learning experience for Year 6, who did a fantastic job creating their own brands while building literacy and entrepreneurial skills. Our Year 6 students took their expertise one step further this year and designed their own apps for their stalls.
Book Week
Recently, our school held our annual Book Parade as part of Book Week celebrations. The 2025 Book Week theme was "Book an Adventure". This theme encouraged our students to explore new worlds and possibilities through stories.
Students dressed up as their favourite book characters and paraded around the sports court, showcasing their creativity and love for literature. The event was both fun and engaging, allowing everyone to enjoy the vibrant costumes and share their enthusiasm for reading. It was a wonderful way to bring stories to life and celebrate the joy of books together.
Stage 3 Airport Excursion
Our recent excursion to Sydney Airport was an unforgettable adventure. Students had the rare opportunity to go out on the tarmac and learn all about how airports operate, from flight paths and air traffic control to the important roles of airport security dogs and accommodation services. A highlight of the day was visiting the airport fire station, where everyone got a turn using the hoses. But the absolute best part was getting hosed down by the fire crew. It was an exciting and soaking wet end to a fantastic day.
Athletics Carnival
The 2025 Athletics Carnival was an exciting whole school event held at Hensley Athletic Field. Students from Kindergarten to Year 2 took part in a variety of fun sports games and running races, allowing them to enjoy physical activity in a supportive environment. Meanwhile, students from Years 3 to 6 competed in a range of track and field events, showcasing their athletic skills and sportsmanship.
The carnival was a fantastic opportunity for all students to be active, challenge themselves, and celebrate their achievements together. Congratulations to Wirriga for winning the Athletics Carnival shield for the second year straight!
Kindergarten's 100th Day of School
Our Kindergarten students had a fantastic time celebrating their 100th day of school! To mark this special milestone, the children dressed up as 100 year olds, bringing lots of smiles and laughter to the classroom. Throughout the day, they engaged in a variety of centurion themed activities designed to make learning fun and memorable. These activities helped reinforce the concept of 100 in creative and hands-on ways.
The day concluded with a joyful celebratory assembly where students shared their experiences and achievements. It was a wonderful event that highlighted their growth and enthusiasm for learning!
Kindergarten's Excursion to Tarongra Zoo
The Kindergarten students had an first ever excursion to Taronga Zoo, where they explored a diverse range of animals and learned about wildlife conservation. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning outside the classroom, allowing students to observe animals up close and discover interesting facts about their habitats and behaviours.
Throughout the day, the children participated in guided tours and interactive sessions that sparked their curiosity and fostered a deeper appreciation for nature. The trip was not only educational but also lots of fun, creating lasting memories for our young learners.
South Sydney Rabbitohs Visit
The South Sydney Rabbitohs recently visited Gardeners Road Public School for a special assembly where the players engaged with our students about making healthy choices. It was an exciting and inspiring event, as the students were thrilled to meet some of their sporting heroes in person. During the visit, the players shared valuable messages about the importance of nutrition, exercise, and positive lifestyle habits.
The assembly created a great opportunity for students to learn from role models they admire, encouraging them to adopt healthy habits both on and off the field. It was a memorable experience that left a lasting impact on the school community.
OzHarvest FEAST Program
Students in Stage 3 participated in the OzHarvest FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training) Program, an engaging and educational initiative focused on food education, nutrition, and sustainability. Through this program, students learned about the importance of reducing food waste, making healthy food choices, and understanding where their food comes from.
The hands-on activities and interactive lessons took place over a ten-week helped students develop practical skills such as cooking simple, nutritious meals and planning sustainable food practices. The FEAST Program not only promoted healthy lifestyles but also encouraged students to become more mindful about food consumption and its impact on the environment, culminating in the publication of a cookbook, From the Playground to the Plate.
Easter Hat Parade
The Easter Hat Parade at Gardeners Road Public School was a joyful community celebration filled with creativity and fun. Students worked together with their buddies to design and create colourful Easter hats, showcasing their artistic talents and teamwork. The parade was held around the sports court, where students proudly showcased their unique hats to friends, family, and staff.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the event included a sausage sizzle and an ice-cream stall, making it a delightful occasion for everyone to enjoy. The Easter Hat Parade was a wonderful opportunity to bring the school community together, celebrating creativity, friendship, and the spirit of the season.
Education Week
Education Week at Gardeners Road Public School was a special celebration highlighting the importance of learning and community. The 2025 theme for NSW Public Education Week was "Ignite your potential". This theme was used to celebrate the achievements of students, staff, and public schools in New South Wales and to emphasise the support and opportunities available for students to learn, grow, and succeed.
The day began with a whole school assembly where students, staff, and families came together to mark the occasion. Following the assembly, parents were warmly invited into open classrooms to participate in a lesson alongside their child. This provided a wonderful opportunity for parents to engage directly with their child’s learning experience and connect with the school community.
