High Potential and Gifted Education
At Gardeners Road Public School, we provide the right support to help advanced or talented learners grow and do their best by following the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy. In NSW public schools, a student can be identified as being High Potential, Gifted or Highly Gifted in one or more of the following domains:
Intellectual, Social-Emotional, Physical or Creative.
Gardeners Road Public School has a comprehensive HPGE student identification process. This identification process is used to identify students that are HPGE in one or more of the following domains:
- Creative domain – refers to natural abilities in imagination, invention and originality.
- Intellectual domain – refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning.
- Physical domain – refers to natural abilities in muscular movement and motor control.
- Social-emotional – refers to natural abilities in self-management and relating to and interacting with others.
If a student is identified as being HPGE, their classroom teacher will work with the student and their parents/carers to develop a HPGE Individual Learning Plan. This plan outlines the adjustments and interventions the classroom teacher will implement at school to further develop the student’s potential or giftedness.
